Frequently Asked Questions

Three-point lock hardware and repair questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from homeowners and businesses across Mississauga, Toronto, and Oakville.

Do you really work on multipoint and three-point locks specifically?

Yes – it’s our specialty. We carry parts for GU, Ferco, Hoppe, Winkhaus, Fuhr, Schlage and Emtek multipoint systems, so we can usually repair or replace the mechanism in one visit instead of ordering parts and coming back.

How fast can you get here?

We offer same-day service across Mississauga, Toronto, Oakville and the GTA, during our posted business hours, with priority scheduling for lockouts and urgent calls.

Do you give a quote before starting work?

Yes. We diagnose the issue on-site and give you an upfront price before any repair begins – no surprise charges on the invoice.

What areas do you serve?

We regularly serve Mississauga, Toronto, and Oakville, and take jobs throughout the surrounding GTA. Contact us with your address and we’ll confirm right away.

I’m locked out right now – what should I do?

Call us directly at (289) 985-0698. We handle emergency lockouts during our posted business hours and can also re-key the lock on the same visit if needed.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. 3 Point Lock Pros operates under TBC Canada Services Inc. and is fully licensed and insured.

My multipoint lock is an older or discontinued brand – can you still help?

In most cases, yes. Many multipoint mechanisms share compatible internal parts across brands. We’ll inspect the lock on-site and let you know your options, including repair, partial replacement, or a full mechanism swap.

Do you offer a warranty on repairs?

Yes, workmanship on completed repairs is warrantied. Ask your technician for the specifics for your job when you book.

More questions about 3-point and multipoint locks

What is a multipoint or three-point lock?

It is one locking system that secures the door at several points, usually through a centre latch or deadbolt plus upper and lower hooks, bolts, or rollers. The handle and gearbox must work together and the door must be aligned correctly.

Why does my lock work with the door open but not when it is closed?

This often indicates alignment, hinge movement, shifted keeps, or pressure from the frame rather than a completely failed lock. We inspect the door, frame, hinges, keeps, and mechanism before recommending parts.

Do I need to lift the handle before turning the key?

Most lift-to-lock multipoint doors require the handle to be lifted so the upper and lower locking points engage. If the handle will not lift smoothly, do not force it; the door may need adjustment or the mechanism may need repair.

Can you fix the alignment without replacing the whole lock?

Often, yes. Hinge adjustment, keep repositioning, strike correction, lubrication, and door/frame repairs can restore operation when the gearbox and locking strip are still sound.

Which multipoint and three-point lock brands do you work with?

We inspect common Canadian and European systems including GU/Ferco, Winkhaus, Fuhr, KFV, Roto, Siegenia, Maco, Hoppe, Schlegel, Yale, Schlage, Emtek, ASSA ABLOY, Dormakaba, Trilennium, and Endura. Exact compatibility depends on the door preparation and measurements.

Can you help with an older or discontinued lock?

In many cases we can repair, match compatible parts, replace the gearbox, or recommend a practical conversion. We confirm the available option after inspecting the lock strip, backset, centres, faceplate, and door preparation.

Is repair better than replacement?

It depends on the failure and the condition of the door. We look at alignment, wear, damage, parts availability, and security needs, then explain whether adjustment, partial replacement, or a complete mechanism is the sensible choice.

Can you replace only the gearbox, cylinder, handles, or locking points?

Yes, when the remaining components are compatible and in good condition. We can discuss gearbox, cylinder, handle set, keeps, faceplate, hooks, rollers, strikes, and related door hardware options.

Can you re-key my multipoint lock to match my existing key?

Often, yes. We check the cylinder type and keyway first. Depending on the hardware, we may re-key the existing cylinder, install a compatible cylinder, or key several locks alike.

Do you repair commercial glass doors, panic bars, and door closers?

Yes. We work with commercial entry doors, glass-door locks, panic and push bars, mortise cylinders, strikes, pivots, and door closers, subject to an on-site compatibility check.

Can a smart lock be installed on a three-point door?

Sometimes. The correct solution depends on the existing gearbox, handle operation, cylinder, door thickness, and whether the system is lift-to-lock. We assess the mechanism first and recommend a compatible Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, keypad, or hybrid option.

What is the difference between Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and keypad locks?

Wi-Fi can support remote access and notifications, Bluetooth is generally local phone access, and a keypad provides code entry without carrying a key. Some systems combine two or more methods. The right choice depends on your door, access needs, battery plan, and smart-home setup.

Will a smart lock work if the battery or internet fails?

Battery-powered locks normally continue to operate locally, but remote Wi-Fi features can pause when the internet is down. We recommend keeping a physical-key override, emergency power method, or backup access plan.

What photos and information should I send for a quote?

Send a photo of the door edge and faceplate, the inside and outside handles, the cylinder or key, and the full door and frame. Include your city, the symptoms, and whether the door is currently locked or open. This helps us prepare the right parts.

How quickly can you arrive?

We schedule service during our posted operating hours: Sunday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday closed. Arrival depends on your location, traffic, current jobs, and parts requirements, and we provide a realistic time window when you contact us.

Do you service condos, landlords, offices, and retail locations?

Yes. We help homeowners, tenants with authorization, property managers, landlords, offices, and retail businesses across Mississauga and surrounding GTA communities.

Will you need to drill the lock?

We use non-destructive entry and repair methods whenever practical. If a lock is severely failed, unsafe, or cannot be opened another way, we explain the options before proceeding.

How much does multipoint lock repair cost?

The price depends on the diagnosis, parts, door condition, and labour required. We inspect the problem and provide an upfront quote before repair or replacement work begins.

Do repairs include a warranty?

Completed workmanship is warrantied. The exact coverage can vary by repair and by manufacturer part, so we explain the applicable details for your job before work starts.
